Award Winning Martian House
Our collaborative project Building a Martian House has won the Civic Trust Pro Tem Award.
The Civic Trust Pro Tem award is given annually to exemplary and sustainable temporary projects that make outstanding contributions to the quality and appearance of the built environment.
Hugh Broughton Architects and Pearce+ worked closely with artists Ella & Nicki to realise a community-led experimental prototype for a Martian dwelling in partnership with the M Shed, Bristol and funded by the Edward Marshall Trust. The project has been designed through a collaborative process between artists, scientists, architects, engineers and the public. ‘Building a Martian House’ achieved planning consent from Bristol City Council in October 2020 – the first Martian House to be consented by a local authority on Earth, it was exhibited in public for three months over the Summer of 2022.
